In the early days of providing telphony-based services and modern hosted PBX/UCaaS, the regulations and compliance were not so strict or heavily monitored, but in 2025, that changed, and most service providers require dramatic changes in their delivery of VoIP and carrier requirements to avoid fines and service interruptions.

ioTRAN can help any service provider with compliance and regulatory issues without abandoning your current platform or infrastructure. We address the current compliance issues that include:

  • ioSTIR/Shaken -- Although this began in 2014, on June 20th of 2025, the FCC adopted rules that require service providers to authenticate their own calls by digitally signing calls that emanate from their platform or system. Previously, many carriers and traffic providers were signing calls on their behalf, but the new ruling declared that the service provider perform this function. STIR/SHAKEN is an industry-wide initiative to restore trust in our voice communications. It provides a standardized technology framework to share information across a VoIP call flow to identify the call origin and reduce fraudulent spoofed calls, while making sure that legitimate calls reach the intended called party.

ioTRAN developed a low-cost solution called io-STIR/Shaken, which sits between any service provider's platform or network and their traffic provider or carrier. This is a perfect companion to ioDoNotOriginate.

  • ioDoNotOriginate -- On December 15th, 2025, the new FCC Do Not Originate (DNO) will go into effect for all service providers. The rule is another ruling to eliminate fraudulent calls. It specifies that voice service providers in the call path block calls originating from numbers that should not be used to make outbound calls. These numbers include invalid, unallocated, unused numbers, or government agencies, and those for which the subscriber has specifically requested to be inbound-only. This is achieved by utilizing a reasonable DNO List and providing appropriate response codes if a call is blocked.

ioTRAN developed a low-cost solution called ioDoNotOriginate, which sits between any service provider's platform or network and their traffic provider or carrier. This is a perfect companion to ioStir/Shaken.

  • ioTAX -- Every service provider in the VoIP environment is required to collect taxes and regulatory fees within the USA. These include Federal, State, Local, and FCC-related taxes. For many, this can be an extremely difficult task to determine which taxes are required and have them appear on their customers' invoices. ioTRAN provides powerful solutions for service providers with its built-in taxation API. No longer do you have to worry or think about getting the exact taxation to your customers.

With ioTRAN's ioCOMPLIANCE services, you can solve your compliance issues cost-effectively and ensure that the FCC does not come knocking on your door.
